The project has been granted planning permission on appeal for our client Renewable Connections. The hearing was in early September 2026, and a decision just seven weeks later, giving everyone more certainty and a clearer route to delivery.

The site is in the Green Belt and therefore the key issues were whether very special circumstances exist and the planning balance. The Inspector noted the new NPPF directs substantial weight to the benefits of energy security, economic development and the transition to net zero. Although the inspector disagreed that the site was grey belt, he concluded that very special circumstances did exist and the benefits clearly outweighed the harms.

Third Revolution led the planning application and managed the specialist team. We also led the appeal and provided planning evidence.

The scheme will deliver:

⚡ Clean power for around 10,660 homes each year

🌍 Around 4,930 tonnes of CO₂ offset annually

🌿 A 169% uplift in habitat, well above the 10% minimum requirement

🚶 A new permissive path around the site

🐑 Continued grazing, supporting the farm’s long-term future

We were supported by Peter Cruickshank (No5 Chambers), Ruth Knight(Abseline), and Tony Kernon (Kernon Countryside Consultants).
