Third Revolution Projects have secured consent for a Solar Farm and co-located Battery Energy System via planning committee on a 15 hectare site in Bath & Northeast Somerset in June 2025. The proposal is situated near the village of Paulton and will generate up to 9.2MW of solar energy and store up to 49.5MW of electricity.

The scheme’s challenging location of being adjacent to a settlement, narrow country roads and varying topography brought a degree of planning challenges that the TRP team together with specialist surveyors and the design team sought to overcome.

TRP managed and advised on design changes, further required specialist input and mitigation measures to achieve an acceptable scheme overcoming these constraints.

Design changes included significantly reducing the scheme to remove fields from the proposal to address landscape impact concerns raised during consultation. This in turn also made the scheme better integrate with the village setting and respond to feedback making it more acceptable from an amenity perspective for nearby residents.

As landscape was a big planning consideration on this site, TRP worked closely with the client, ecologist and landscape consultant to ensure the highest quality landscaping scheme was brought forward bringing synergies to Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG). This involved incorporating new tree planting, hedges and native wildflower meadow. Altogether the landscaping scheme brings forward a 73.86% BNG habitat increase.

The scheme initially went to planning committee on 7th May with an outcome of deferral. On the second time around in planning committee on the 4th June the scheme was approved.
