This 49.9MW (70MWp) solar farm is located on the edge of Palgrave in Mid Suffolk. TRP led the planning application on behalf of applicant Pathfinder Clean Energy. We engaged early with the local community and used their feedback and the advice of our specialist consultant team to design a solar farm that balanced commercial, environmental and community concerns.

The application faced significant opposition from a well organised  minority of local residents. With the election in May 2023 of a Green Party-led council, it became important to demonstrate the biodiversity benefits. Our scheme was able to show a net gain of over 100% and we are negotiating with the LPA to make some of these credits available for sale to other developers as biodiversity offsets. 

The application was approved in October 2023.

The Third Revolution team has secured planning consent for a 19.8MWp solar farm near Upper Tean in Staffordshire, on behalf of RE Projects Development. The site is located on lower grade pasture land and will generate enough renewable energy to supply over 5,200 homes and businesses in the area. 

The team worked with ecologists and landscape specialists to create a scheme that will benefit wildlife, enable continued grazing of livestock as well as generating energy. A long term management plan has been agreed which will ensure the proposed meadows, trees and hedges will be maintained for the duration of the project. An offsite mitigation area has also been included to allow space for birds to nest and to forage in the newly created habitats.

The scheme was approved by Staffordshire Moorlands planning committee and, following discharge of planning conditions, will commence to construction.

Officers at South Gloucestershire Council have approved a 100MW battery project adjacent to the Iron Acton substation. 

Working with client RE Projects Development, the Third Revolution team led the planning application process, including pre-application discussions with officers and specialist consultees, community engagement, preparation of application documents and submission of the application.

The Lower Larks site is in green belt and so the team had to present very special circumstances to justify the location of the project and to develop a landscaping strategy that would ensure the development would not be visible from the surrounding area.

Significant ecological enhancements have been included to benefit wildlife in the area.

The TRP team has recently secured planning consent for a solar and battery energy storage project in Colton, Norwich. The proposal will offset over 9,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year and play a vital role in the growth of sustainable food production at Norwich’s Food Enterprise Park. This includes companies such as Fisher Farms, who are revolutionising farming with their next generation, vertical farms that use LED lighting system to produce crops on a fraction of the space needed for conventional farming (even when the space for the solar farm is factored in).

TRP led the planning application, managed a specialist team of surveyors, undertook consultation with the local community and discussion with officers. The application is expected to be constructed in 2024.

Our team successfully gained planning consent for Attleborough (25MWp) Burgate (21MWp) and Three Bridges (27MWp) solar farms, all co-located with battery energy storage systems for Pathfinder Clean Energy (PACE). All three received unanimous approvals from Broadlands and Breckland planning committees. 

They have been designed to achieve very large increases in habitat to help minimise the decline in British wildlife, and also allow for continued agriculture. TRP led the planning process, public consultation and managed a specialist team of consultants.

The team has another 500MW with PACE alone in the planning pipeline.

Fulwood Grange Solar Farm was originally a 5MW project, consented in 2015. It was subsequently put on hold when subsidies were removed by Government. Now that equipment prices have fallen, the scheme has become viable again and Third Revolution were instructed to submit a Section 73 (minor material amendment) application to extend the life to 40-years and to add an additional megawatt of capacity. We submitted the application, liaised with planning officers and specialist consultants, and the application was approved via delegated authority.

Third Revolution worked with energy developer REPD to gain planning consent for a peak power gas and battery energy storage facility in the Warrington Green Belt. We led the planning application process, including liaising closely with the design team to ensure the project could be considered appropriate development in the Green Belt. We also undertook an alternative site search for the applicant.

The application was refused by the planning committee, against officer advice, and so we went on to lead the successful planning appeal. A further set of changes to the scheme were approved by the planning committee in 2019, following a Section 73 (minor material amendment) application.

Working with energy developer REPD, Third Revolution led the planning for a 6MW grid connected battery energy storage project in South Lakelands. The team prepared the full set of planning documents, instructed and managed the specialist consultants, undertook pre-application discussions with the planning officers and community consultation. The application was recommended for approval by officers and gained unanimous support from the planning committee. 

Third Revolution were appointed to prepare the Case for Development as part of a Development Consent Order application for a proposed 675 turbine offshore wind farm being developed by ScottishPower Renewables. The commissioning included a review of the need for major infrastructure renewable energy projects in the context of a fast-changing energy landscape, carbon reduction objectives, energy security and changing demand for energy.
